Fiction postponement: The shift towards streaming – ‘Murder on Öd: An Island Mystery 3&4’: Free-to-air premiere not until 2027

RTL is pulling the plug on ‘Deadly Tuesday’ for the time being. Whilst long-running hits such as ‘Germany’s Got Talent’ (German: DSDS) will take over the slot, high-quality drama such as ‘Murder on Öd’ will be moved behind the RTL+ paywall for almost a year.

On RTL, ‘Deadly Tuesday’ is coming to an end for now. Next week there will be a repeat of ‘Alpine Death’, after which ‘Germany’s Got Talent’ will be broadcast on Tuesdays. This means that two crime series have not been shown this winter/spring: ‘Alarm für Cobra 11’ and ‘Morden auf Öd’.

“Murder on Öd”: Free-to-air TV premiere not until 2027
And “Murder on Öd” will also be coming to the RTL streaming service first. As RTL has now announced, episodes three and four of the critically acclaimed series will be available to stream exclusively there for around a year. The free-to-air premiere of the series, penned by Holger Karsten Schmidt (“North-north-west”), is therefore not scheduled until spring 2027.

In ‘Ödkieker’ (14 April), what appears to be a suicide is revealed to be a perfidious contract killing, whilst a severed undersea cable cuts the island off from the outside world and a deadly game of cat and mouse begins.
In ‘The Cry of the Seagull’ (21 April), a stag do ends in tragedy and draws the trio deep into a family web of lies and secrets, love and betrayal.

Fiction update: The trend towards streaming
It was already known that Heino Ferch would be joining the cast in episodes three and four. As a charismatic archivist, he is set to become a central figure linking the island’s mythology with the investigation. Paula Kalenberg and Max Hubacher will also remain part of the series.
